1001 Reasons to Praise

Do you spring out of bed with a joyful bounce and a song of praise welling up within you? Do you skip off to work humming praises to God?

If you’re like most of us, you don’t. You smash the alarm clock, begging for a few extra minutes. You stumble half-awake into the bathroom to get ready for the day. You drive to work with music blaring hoping to wake up and make it through the day.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Countless times throughout the Psalms we are told to sing praises to our King. To lift high His Name. To exalt the LORD.

In one of my favorite Psalms (Psalm 136), the Psalmist declares 26 lines of remembrance. After each line, the assembly would shout back “For His mercy endures forever!” Another translation says “For His loving kindness endures forever!” Another says “His steadfast love endures forever!” Or still another “For His faithfulness endures forever!”

At every point of remembrance, God’s faithfulness, His love, His mercy was declared.

Ephesians 1 says three times that we should be to the praise of His glory (1:6, 12, 14). What would it look like if your life was constantly being lived to His praise and glory? How would that change how you thought, talked, and lived?

1001 Reasons to Praise

Psalm 103:1-2 says “Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits …”

Could it be that the reason we don’t wake up with a bounce, a skip, and a song is because we forget His benefits?

What if we remembered?

Have you ever sat down and made a list of things that cause you to praise God? A list of remembrances of why He is good and worthy to receive all honor, praise, and glory?

One of the things about such a list is that it frequently brings to mind reasons why we should constantly declare with the assembly “His love … His mercy … His faithfulness endures forever!”

Walk through Scripture—there are countless declarations why God is good, faithful, and worthy to be praised. Each name throughout Scripture reveals who He is and why He is worthy of our praise!
