Brother Andrew declared at the end of his life that if he could go back and do it over again, he would be “a lot more radical.”
If Brother Andrew, someone I would have described as living a radical life, would say he wanted to be more radical, how much more us in the church today.
In this episode, I want to discuss three practical ways we can become more radical in our Christian lives.

3 ways to become more radical in your Christian life
1. Know Your God
We must know the heart, character, and nature of God. If we want to live radically and go where He asks and do whatever He requests, we must trust Him. And the only way we will trust God is to know Him—both intellectually (through His Word) and intimately (through having relationship with Him).
- Psalm 46:10a (ESV) – Be still, and know that I am God.
- Psalm 46:10a – Cease striving and know that I am God.
- Hebrews 13:5b-6 – … for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,” so that we confidently say, “THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?”
2. Throw off every hindrance
We must throw off everything from our lives that hinders us from living radical. First and foremost we must live holy and righteous—throwing off all sin from our lives. Hebrews 12:1-2 reminds us, “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, laying aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith…”
But there are other things that may need to be removed from our lives so that we can live radically for Christ—relationships, possessions, and debt. Paul tells us in Romans 13:8 to “owe nothing to anyone except to love one another…” If we have financial debt in our lives, it is really difficult to obey God and go where He asks us to go.
3. Walk in obedience
The journey to a radical Christian life begins with a single step of obedience.
And it is as we walk in the small steps of obedience, that we discover God leading us into greater and greater lives of radical abandonment to Him.
Brother Andrew said in God’s Smuggler, “That’s the excitement in obedience, finding out later what God had in mind.” Though we may not fully understand what God is doing at the moment, as we continue to walk steps of obedience, we discover a grand adventure as God’s purpose and plans are unveiled.
