“I’m expecting!”

I don’t know about you, but I typically think of pregnancy when I hear those words.

Yet, shouldn’t we use that phrase in our relationship to Jesus?

  • I’m expecting greater intimacy with the Living God.
  • I’m expecting deeper understanding in His Word.
  • I’m expecting to live in victory and triumph today in the enabling power of God’s Spirit in my life.
  • I’m expecting to be bold in my witness and proclamation of the Gospel.
  • I’m expecting …

When the Israelites were in the wilderness, wandering for forty years, they had to gather manna daily. There was a continual expectation that God would provide for their needs. Yet we find that after a few years, their expectancy turned into normalcy … gathering manna became same-old-same-old. It caused them to become mediocre, going through the motions, full of complaint.

For far too many believers, that is how we approach Jesus. We’re stuck in a rut, going through the motions—we show up to church, read our Bibles, pray before meals … but what should a life full of excitement and expectancy has turned into commonplace mundane living.

As we head into the end of this year and the start of a new one … are you expectant? Are you excited about your growing relationship with Jesus Christ? Is your time in the Word thriving?

If not … I encourage you to spend some time pondering why … then find yourself at the foot of the cross, repent for anything (including apathy and passivity), and ask Jesus, through His Spirit, to empower you and give you a fresh expectancy for this upcoming season.

I for one am expecting! What about you?
