Understanding God’s Love in 244 Words

We know that God is love (1 John 4.16). While there are other attributes that describe God (holy, righteous, true, faithful, pure, etc), have you ever thought about what the love of God looks like?

Foremost, it is a Person – Jesus. Love is not an abstract emotion to God, love is a Person, whose name is Jesus, who took on flesh and showed the world what love truly is and looks like.

But how would you describe the love of God? Or Jesus for that matter?

1 Corinthians 13 is often referred to as the “love chapter.” And while there are many incredible aspects about what love is suppose to be, do you realize that it merely points back to Jesus? If God is love, you can, in essence, replace “love” with “Jesus.”

  • Jesus is patient and is kind;
  • Jesus does not envy;
  • Jesus does not parade Himself (He’s humble),
  • He is not puffed up;
  • He does not behave rudely,
  • He is not provoked,
  • Jesus thinks no evil;
  • Nor does He rejoice in iniquity,
  • But He rejoices in the truth;
  • Jesus bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
  • Jesus never fails.

Can I ask you a question? If you were to be filled with the presence of God (Holy Spirit) and HIs nature became your nature – wouldn’t you think that all these characteristics about love would describe you as well? Could you replace your name for the word “love”?

Question: Describe another one of God’s attributes and how it affects your life.
