I am both encouraged and convicted by AW Tozer’s statement:
It may be said without qualification that every man is as holy and as full of the Spirit as he wants to be. He may not be as full as he wishes he were, but he is most certainly as full as he wants to be.
I am encouraged because it gives hope that I can have more of Christ and His Spirit in my life. I can be more set apart, more holy, more consecrated and unlike this world.
Yet I’m a bit convicted because my current state of holiness and embrace of the Spirit is a result of my satisfaction and pursuit of Him.
If I’m not where I want to be in my relationship with Christ, it is because I am withholding myself – not because He doesn’t want me to be more holy or have a fullness of the Spirit in my life.
Jesus declared in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”
Do you hunger and thirst for righteousness? Do you long for more of Jesus? Do you crave a life marked by holiness, purity, and truth?
We are as holy as we want to be. We are as full of the Holy Spirit as we want to be.
Let us, like Ezekiel, take another step further into God’s river until we are no longer able to stand.
Know I am praying for you and cheering you down the Narrow Way of the Cross,
–Nathan
