Many of us live our lives as Christians not fully realizing who God is or how His character affects us.
Hebrews 13:5-6 declares: “For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we may boldly say: ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?'”
As believers, we must realize that God won’t throw us to the side, He won’t forsake us, He won’t leave us alone—and such truth that He will never leave or forsake us can transform how we face each day.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9: We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed …
Word Studies:
- He Himself: double emphasis on the Person speaking
- Leave (aniēmi): desert, abandon, forsake, to leave behind; to depart and not take along, either intentionally or by neglect or forgetfulness
- Forsake (egkataleipō): desert, give up, cease from, abandon, forsake, leave behind
- Never never / Never ever: a double negative emphasis before leave & forsake
- “Literal” Reading: For He Himself has said, “I will never never forsake you, nor never never leave you.”
Quote from Charles Spurgeon on Hebrews 13:5-6
I have no doubt you are aware that our translation does not convey the whole force of the original, and that it would hardly be possible in English to give the full weight of the Greek. We might render it, “He hath said, I will never, never leave thee; I will never, never, never forsake thee;” for, though that would be not a literal, but rather a free rendering, yet, as there are five negatives in the Greek, we do not know how to give their force in any other way. Two negatives nullify each other in our language; but here, in the Greek, they intensify the meaning following one after another … (Charles Spurgeon, Sermon 477).
