A few weeks ago, I stopped at Walgreens to track down a particular brand of vitamins I was looking for. Having been told this brand is outstanding (and cheap), I finally made my discovery in the back corner of the store, to my great delight. While reading the label, my eye caught a large stack of boxes containing red super fruits (a powered mixture of healthy super fruits to mix into a drink for added vitamins, minerals, and other health benefits I have no idea of). They were 50% off and so I decided I might want to try a box. As I turned to leave I noticed another box of sample daily vitamins that you could have for free if you purchased a bottle of vitamins (which I held in my hand), so I picked that up too. But it was as I approached the checkout counter, the kind lady gave me the most startling news . . .
“Your bottle of vitamins are buy one get one free.”
Are you serious?!?!?! Having searched all over town for this particular brand, not only is it cheaper than most but I get a free bottle in the process! I cried my thanks and skipped to the back corner of the store to grab another bottle. As I returned and waited for the person in front of me to check out, I smiled with the deep pleasure of a kid in a candy shop. When it was my turn to check out again, the lady laughed and said that the box of super fruits were also buy one get one free. “NO WAY!” was my thrilled response as I set off in a jog to go grab another box. In my return trot to the front she yelled out, “so is the sample free vitamin pack.” I quickly turned on my heels with a shout of glee as I grabbed one more of those boxes. When I finally did check out with far more than I expected, between sales and buy one get one frees, I left the store spending less than I originally intended with four times the amount of “health potential.”
As I skipped to my vehicle, I couldn’t help but laugh wildly and cry out with sheer avidity. It totally made the day and reminded me of the exuberance and elation found within Psalm 150. This Psalm ends the poetic musings with a bang, literally. The writer is so excited about who the King of kings and Lord of lords is, he couldn’t help but skip, shout and stammer his praises to the God on high. Is such a jubilation the basis of your life? Are you bounding through every day with His praises upon your lips, His love within your heart, and His life within yours?
Praise the LORD!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with the stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with the loud cymbals;
Praise Him with the clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD!
