As Christians, we are called to walk and live in obedience to God and His Word, even if it doesn’t make sense.

In John 9 there is a fascinating story of a blind man who – despite crazy circumstances – was willing to obey the command of Christ, and found sight as a result.

In this episode, we discuss obedience and how Jesus is calling us to obey His Word (which is not burdensome) even if it doesn’t make sense or if we can see the end result or purpose in the moment.

Show Notes / Additional Resources

  • John 9:1-7 – As Jesus passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned. But it happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. I must do the works of Him who sent Me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” When He had said this, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva. He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he went away and washed, and returned seeing.
  • John 14:15 – If you love Me, keep My commandments.
  • 1 John 5:13 – For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.
  • John 15:9-10 – As the Father loved Me, I also loved you. Remain in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, even as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.
  • John 15:12 – This is My commandment: that you love one another, as I have loved you.
