Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by the streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Psalm 1
Psalm 1 has always been a favorite of mine. It’s short, to the point, and contains a great illustration of the Christian life! Look at what it says – the Godly individual has the law of the Lord upon his focus day and night. We as believers are to have Jesus as our sole focus day and night, in other words, continuously. That is not to say we sit in a closet and think on nothing but Jesus, but in the midst of every activity, in the middle of every circumstance, through every meal, word, and attitude, He is continually on our minds. Perhaps another way to say this is that Jesus produces (sources) our every thought, action, attitude…
Such an individual according to the Psalm is like a tree planted by a stream of water. As a tree the best place to be planted would be a stream! Why? Because you have constant nourishment and a continuous life-source. It doesn’t matter to you whether the land is in a drought or is experiencing plenty – your flow of nourishment remains the same. It doesn’t matter if all the other trees are lacking in leaves or fruit; yours is constant. Your leafs don’t wither when hard times comes; you don’t have to think about holding back water from fruit production because you’re concerned you won’t have enough … you are in the land of constant sourcing. As a Christian, our lives should be firmly planted in Jesus … our life-source! It shouldn’t matter whether the economy is going through a good or bad time, it shouldn’t matter if all the world appears to be falling apart or going through its greatest days. It doesn’t affect your intimacy or oneness with Christ if everyone around you is withering and weak or if their lives are lacking fruit – for you are constantly sourced and supplied of Him. He, the Living Water, is flowing and producing LIFE in you! All that you do prospers – not because it is YOU producing it, but rather because Jesus Himself is the one who is doing it through you.
Where are you planted today?
Are your leaves withering?
Are you bearing fruit?
Come to the Waters of Life and allow Him to replant you.
