Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
Revelation 19.11-16
This has to be one of my favorite passages. I love this grandiose picture of Jesus when He returns. I often smile at the last verse above, for it sounds as if Jesus has a tattoo upon His thigh declaring who He is. But what is even more exciting to think about is verse twelve which states that Jesus has a Name that no one knows but Himself. Do you realize that in Scripture, we have hundreds of Names for Christ – yet there is still one Name that we haven’t even heard yet. Can you imagine one day in heaven everyone gathers around Jesus for the revealing of the Name which no one knows but Himself. I can hardly wait!! I wonder what kind of Name it will be?!?!
But here’s the neat thing – while Jesus has a Name known only to Himself, we too are given a name known only to us. Earlier in Revelation (2:17) it states: To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.
Jesus is talking and declares He will give us a NEW name, one in which no one but He and us know. What would it be like to be so intimate, so fused together, so one with Jesus that we hear His special “nickname of love” for us? Do you realize that He has a special name for you which is symbolic of His love, presence, and intimacy with you. Do you know it? Listen. Focus upon and embrace Him. He is calling you by your new name.
