Over the years, God has used certain words and concepts to deepen my understanding of and intimacy with Him. One such word is “hesed” – often translated as God’s loving-kindness, faithfulness, steadfast love, or mercy.
Recently, I stumbled across Michael Card’s book Inexpressible: Hesed and the Mystery of God’s Lovingkindness and was deeply encouraged and challenged.
Hesed is found all throughout Scripture and as Card points out, is truly inexpressible in its definition – the word is just so vast that one single translation is insufficient.
While I’ve loved this word and the concept it conveys, this book gave me a biblical overview of Hesed, how it’s used, and what it practically means for daily living. Perhaps my favorite takeaway is Michael Card’s definition of Hesed – when the person from whom I have a right to expect nothing gives me everything.
I’d love for you to get to know our God of Hesed, our God of abounding love, faithfulness, mercy, and grace. For as Psalm 136 reminds us over and over: His hesed endures forever.
This month I am delighted to give away a copy of Michael Card’s book Inexpressible: Hesed and the Mystery of God’s Lovingkindness to five people.
