Amy Carmichael—Christian missionary, rescuer of children from temple prostitution, prolific author, lover of Jesus.
If you asked for a short list of epic women of God from history past who gave up everything and spent and spilled their lives for Jesus Christ, Amy Carmichael would be near the top. This young woman from Northern Ireland traveled to India and spent more than 50 years on the missions field without ever returning home on furlough. She started the Dohnavur Fellowship, a home and haven for children who were orphaned or unwanted and sold into temple prostitution.
When asked to compile the history of Dohnavur Fellowship into a book, Gold Cord: The Story of a Fellowship is what she wrote. A collection of history and stories that shaped Amy and her work in India, this book is an encouragement to Christians to live a life of obedience and total abandonment unto Jesus Christ.
