Over the next several episodes, I want to talk about ten ways that will help you grow spiritually, deepen your intimacy with Jesus, and practically live the authentic Christian life.

If you’ve spent any amount of time in church you’ve likely been told how important it is for believers to be reading and studying God’s Word … our problem is most of us don’t know how or where to start.

In this episode, we talk about how reading and studying the Bible will grow and deepen your spiritual life … with a couple simple ideas to get started.

Deep and Wide

‌As Christians, we need to include both Bible reading and study into our lives. The reason is we read the Bible for breadth and study the Bible for depth.

Reading the Bible helps you gain a big picture view and understanding of the story of Scripture. Studying the Bible helps you dive deeper into what it means.

How to get started

Here are a few simple suggestions on how to get started reading and studying Scripture:

  • Just get started. I know that sound trite or too simple, but for many of us, we just need to start. Rather than have the perfect plan or system, just get going and allow a system and habit to form. Grab a reading plan and start reading Scripture. Choose a book or passage and begin to ask it questions; going as deep as you can in understanding what it means.
  • Pray and ask God to give you a hunger for His Word.
  • Remember that your love for Scripture will grow the more time you spend in it.
