Pentecost, as recorded in Acts 2, wasn’t some event long ago we celebrate once a year on Pentecost Sunday. Rather it contains the power of Christianity.
William Law once said that the purpose of the Cross wasn’t merely forgiveness, it was Pentecost. Yes, salvation and forgiveness of sins is amazing – but it is SO THAT we can be filled with the Spirit of God (our personal Pentecost).
If we want to live in the fullness of the Christian life, we must understand Pentecost and what it means for our day-to-day living.
My good friend and mentor, Stephen Manley, has been preaching through the book of Acts for two decades – and wrote a book on Pentecost from his study in Acts 2 called A New Level.
As Stephen says, “Christ comes to live within us for the purpose of flowing through us to accomplish a purposed plan. The baptism of the Holy Spirit was to bring to death all self-sourcing. As Jesus constantly lived in the filling of the Father, so we are to constantly live in the filling of the Spirit of Christ. As Jesus was consistently sourced by the Father, so we are to be sourced by the Spirit of Christ. Think of the life that could be lived in the power and sourcing of God!”
If you want a better understand what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to check out A New Level.
This month I am delighted to give away a copy of Stephen Manley’s book on Pentecost A New Level to five people.
