When we truly understand the depth and richness of God’s grace, it no longer becomes a cliché to call it “amazing.”
In part one of a new series examining Titus 2:11–15, we talk about the missing aspects of God’s manifold grace and specifically discuss three things Paul tells us about God’s grace in Titus 2.

The Distortion of Grace
- Jude 1:4 – For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Grace is more …
- While grace is an action, power, mercy, kindness, virtue, gift, legal work (atonement, propitiation, justification, redemption, forgiveness, and adoption) … it is far more than all those things.
- Grace is a Person (Jesus Christ) – the loving action, the unstoppable power, the extreme mercy, the unmerited kindness, the exemplary virtue, the unspeakable gift, and the perfect rescuing work of God upon the Cross (the historic event of all historic events). Grace is the Abundant Life of God made available in the Person of Jesus Christ through His indwelling Holy Spirit.
God’s Amazing Grace
- It is a gift
- (Romans 5:15, 17; Ephesians 2:8; 3:7; 4:7; 1 Peter 4:10)
- Ephesians 2:8 – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God …
- 2 Corinthians 9:14b–15 – … because of the surpassing grace of God on you. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
- Grace is manifold
- 1 Peter 4:10 – As each one has received a gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God …
Grace is given …
- that we might labor more abundantly (1 Corinthians 15:10)
- that we may have sufficiency in all things (2 Corinthians 9:8)
- that we may abound to every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8)
- for obedience to the faith (Romans 1:5)
- as power for witnessing of the resurrection of Jesus (Acts 4:33)
- we may lay foundations of faith and discipleship (1 Corinthians 3:10)
- for ministry (Ephesians 3:1)
- for preaching Christ within the pagan world (Gentiles) (Ephesians 3:8)
- as our means of help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16)
- whereby we may serve God acceptably (Hebrews 12:28)
- to make us perfect (1 Peter 5:10)
- to establish us (1 Peter 5:10)
- to strength us (1 Peter 5:10)
- to settle us (1 Peter 5:10)
- to save us (Ephesians 2:8)
- to enable others to believe in Jesus (Acts 18:27)
Grace in Titus 2:11–12
- Titus 2:11–15 – For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live sensibly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all lawlessness, and purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good works. These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
- God’s grace has appeared
- God’s grace brings salvation to all men (it’s available)
- God’s grace instructs/teaches/corrects (chastise) us (brings correction)
We have all we need
- 2 Corinthians 9:8 – And God is able to make every grace abound to you, so that in everything at every time having every sufficiency, you may have an abundance for every good deed …
