One of my favorite genres of books to read are Christian biographies. They inspire, convict, showcase the workings of Christ, and give us an example to encourage us in the faith. God has often used them in my own life to teach me a spiritual principle, to press me deeper into intimacy with Himself, or to challenge an area of my life.
Though I am more often drawn to classic biographies of Christian heroes who lived 50+ years ago, a biography came out a few years ago entitled These Are the Generations that inspired, convicted my prayer life, and deeply encouraged my faith.
The Baes are a North Korean family who struggled painfully under the dictator/communist regime in one of the most persecuted countries toward Christians in the world. Their difficult but inspirational story not only gave me a glimpse toward the plight of the persecuted church today, but it also caused me to realize I needed a greater awareness and prayerful position toward my Christian brothers and sisters around the world.
