I am always inspired by reading about the prayer lives of Christian men and women of old. Whether it be Andrew Murray, EM Bounds, Rees Howells, George Müller, or others, their stories encourage, convict, and cause my spiritual life to grow and deepen.
John Hyde, also known as “Praying Hyde,” was such a man. Hyde felt called to India and left at age 27 to become a full-time missionary. With a fiery passion for souls, John Hyde would often spend his nights and often times several days in prayer. His burden for prayer was so intense that the stress of praying eventually caused his heart to move from the left side of his chest to his right.
The biography about his life, Praying Hyde, is one that I have often returned to. This month, I’m excited to give away a copy of the book to four people who are a part of the deeperChristian community!
