I love a good reward. Don’t you?

When I was a kid, it was those little stickers of a gold star. Now, whether it be gold stars, money, chocolate, or a kind-encouraging word, I love being rewarded for something I do. It’s probably something innate within us as humans to seek reward and avoid consequences.

Perhaps that is one of the reasons I love God’s promise in Hebrews 11:6 where He says that He will reward those who diligently seek Him.

When I seek Him wholeheartedly, diligently, intentionally … He promises to reward me for doing so.

Sadly in our modern culture, I think we have mistaken what the reward from God is. We are often told God will give us money, fame, success, or that selfish thing I’ve long wanted. But Scripture doesn’t promise any of those things.

God’s reward is the very thing we are diligently seeking: God Himself.

God doesn’t give us trinkets, gold stars, money, fame, or the like … I get God. What better reward could there be?

The more I ponder this incredible promise, the more I’m blown away by it. If I seek after God, I find Him. If I knock, the door WILL be opened. The promise is not only fulfilled the moment I start seeking, it continues to get better the longer and deeper I seek Him.

Want some help to get started seeking after Him? I just released (this week!) my new book 30 Day Adventure to Know Jesus More which gives you 30 days of practical ways to grow in your understanding, relationship, and intimacy with Christ. It was originally a “30 day challenge” I offered a few years ago, but now has been edited, updated, and rereleased in paperback and kindle formats.

Whether you ever use the book or not, remember, God rewards those who diligently seek Him. And the reward is Himself.

Praying you would freshly go after Jesus in your life,
– Nathan
