First, an apology: I apologize. Okay, now that’s out I feel a bit better. I realize if you’ve been following deeperChristian closely, you’ll have noticed a lack of … um … anything for several weeks—and for that I apologize. I could give a litany of excuses and explanation but I’ll refrain. Please know we should be back into “normal post groove” soon now that things are beginning to settle down a bit. I was never really big into comic books (I’d rather read a real book), but I remember as a kid, receiving a comic book about the life of Brother Andrew. I was fascinated about this man who would sneak behind the Iron Curtain after WWII smuggling Bibles to the underground churches in primarily Eastern Europe.
Later in life I came across the book God Smuggler which recounts Brother Andrew’s story from growing up in Holland to his epic Bible-smuggling adventure. It quickly became a favorite and even now I often go back to its pages every year or so (and the audio book is outstanding as well, read by Simon Vance, my favorite audiobook reader).
I recently found out that this year (a few months ago) a new edition of the book came out with pictures of Brother Andrew and his ministry, a new epilogue containing an update from the last 60 years of his ministry around the world.
If you have never read God Smuggler it is a MUST read. The fast pace, spy-type adventure story is a powerful and stirring account of one man’s faith in a faithful and trustworthy God and how God loves to use a Christian who is fully surrendered to Himself.
