How Does a Christian Respond to the Perilous Times We Live In?

Deeper Christian Podcast • Episode 187

We live in perilous times … so how should a Christian respond in such a season?

The great need of our culture is a group of men and women who are willing to labor in prayer, to humble themselves, and seek God’s face.

In this episode, Nathan talks about how a Christian is to respond to the perilous times we live in and gives seven key things we should diligently pray for.

Show Notes / Additional Resources

  • 2 Timothy 3:1-5 – But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (NKJV)
  • 2 Timothy 4:3-4 – For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (NKJV)
  • Judges 17:6b – Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
  • Philippians 4:6 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God … (NKJV)
  • EM Bounds Quote – “These days of ours have sore need of a generation of praying men, a band of men and women through whom God can bring his great and his greatest movements more fully into the world. The Lord our God is not straitened within himself, but he is straitened in us, by reason of our little faith and weak praying. A breed of Christian is greatly needed who will seek tirelessly after God–who will give him no rest, day and night, until he hearkens to their cry. The times demand praying men who are all athirst for God’s glory, who are broad and unselfish in their desires, quenchless for God, who seek him late and early, and who will give themselves no rest until the whole earth be filled with his glory.
  • 2 Chronicles 7:14 – If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

7 Key Things We Should Pray For During Perilous Times

  1. Our Personal Lives
  2. Our Family
  3. Local + Global Church
  4. Our Country
  5. Stand against the lawlessness, deception, fear, and hatred (ie: the darkness) that is encroaching and increasing in these days
  6. Revival – a great movement of God in our lives, families, church, country, and world
  7. 3Ms – Missions, Martyrs (persecuted church), Maranatha! (Come Lord Jesus)
