The past several days I’ve been freshly studying the Names of God as a part of my 30 Day Challenge to Know Jesus More.

God’s Names are one of my favorite meditations to ponder for they are a revelation not just of a name but of His identity, character, and life.

Hebrews 13:15 reminds us, “Through Him, then, let us continually offer to God the sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”

There is so much packed in this small passage but let’s quickly look at a few aspects:

  • We are to continually offer to God the sacrifice of praise. Continually—the word conveys the idea of repetition, constancy, and without interruption.
  • The way we are able to continually to do is through Him. He is the receiver of the praise yet also the source.
  • Praise, oddly, is a sacrifice and the fruit of our lips (that which our lips should produce).
  • An aspect of this continual praise and fruit of our lips is giving thanks to His name – which is more than thanking Him for His name, but again, its the idea of thanking Him for His life, His nature, His character, His provision.

Does this verse summarize how you’ve lived this week?

If not, will you freshly surrender yourself to Christ and allow Him to produce within you a continual offering of praise, bearing fruit through our lips, a thanksgiving unto Himself?
