While staying at the home of a dear friend and his family in Virginia a few weeks ago while I preached at their church, evening time rolled around and his three adorable little girls jumped onto their couch for Bible story time. They called me over and asked if I’d sit with them while their dad, my friend, read them a story from this amazing children’s Bible—The Jesus Storybook Bible.

It was only upon returning home that I realized I had the audiobook version of this Bible storybook read by the amazing talent of David Suchet.

Since we had only read a couple stories in the New Testament, I thought it would be fun while I brushed my teeth one evening to start at the beginning. Suchet’s words began to flow and I was immediately captured, not only by his vocal talent, but by the stirring words from this children’s storybook.

In short, I was riveted.

What started as a fun evening experience has turned into a daily delightful routine—listening to a children’s Bible storybook as I prepare for bed.

What sets this Bible storybook apart from anything I have ever seen is that each story points to Jesus. All throughout the Old Testament stories, Sally Lloyd-Jones weaves a tapestry of expectation as you anxiously await the coming of Christ.

And though I teach classes on Bible survey and how to see Jesus throughout the Old Testament, this Bible storybook has given me fresh insights and thoughts from places I had missed in the past (for example read the chapter on the Tower of Babel).

It makes sense to me that scholar Dr. Timothy Keller said of this children’s book, “The Jesus Storybook Bible [is] one of my favorite gifts to friends, whether they have children or not.” And in an earlier endorsement, he wrote, “I would urge not just families with young children to get this book, but every Christian–from pew warmers, to ministry leaders, seminarians and even theologians! Sally Lloyd-Jones has captured the heart of what it means to find Christ in all the scriptures, and has made clear even to little children that all God’s revelation has been about Jesus from the beginning–a truth not all that commonly recognized even among the very learned.”

So this month, whether you are 8, 18, or 80, I am delighted to give away a copy of this children’s storybook to eight people—all of whom I think will benefit and be delighted by this fun way to see Christ in all the Bible.
