1610Book-Whats Best Next-Perman

I’m a rather busy person … and so understanding time management is important when you have more on a to-do list than time to accomplish everything on the list.

While I love staying busy and having the sense that I am accomplishing something and making a difference in the world, I also realize the importance of not merely being busy for busy’s sake but using the time God has given me effectively and unto His glory. For more than a decade, I’ve studied time management and read dozens of books on the subject to know how to make my days more productive, effective, and valuable. I’ve gleaned tools, tips, and tricks to speed things up, stay on top of the ever-increasing list of tasks, and to free up time in order that I can be used by God in greater measure.

Though I still tend to live behind schedule and can’t seem to ever get caught up (hence the lack of posts on deeperChristian), I do get a lot done throughout the week and I go to bed each night with the feeling of accomplishment and impact.

The problem with most time management books is that they come from the business world and do not take the Gospel into account. The purpose and mission of God is left out and thus, though they offer tremendous insight and help into productivity, they do it from a world philosophy rather than a Gospel-centric one.

A couple years ago, Matt Perman (who use to work with John Piper at the Desiring God Ministries) wrote a book on productivity from a Gospel-centered perspective entitled What’s Best Next: How the Gospel Transforms the Way You Get Things Done. Though I don’t agree with everything he says, it is one of the best books that incorporates both time management thoughts and strategies with the Scripture mandate to serve others, share the Gospel, and live every moment unto the glory of Christ Jesus.

As I’ve had a couple incredibly busy weeks and recently taught a class on time management, I thought it would be fun for this month’s book giveaway to be a Gospel-centered book on time management. So at the end of this month, I am giving away 3 copies of the book to three people who are a part of the deeperChristian community!

If you haven’t already joined the community, we’d love to have you join us—it’s free, you can unsubscribe at any point (but why would you want to?), you gain access to several great resources, and you’re automatically entered into the book giveaway each month! Want to learn more? Keep reading …
