One of these days some simple soul will pick up the Book of God, read it and believe it.

Our involvement with the Bible will tell a lot about the health of our spiritual lives. If we fail to study, read, meditate, and/or memorize God’s Word, it often correlates to lackluster living and unfruitful spiritual lives. However, if we intentionally spend time in the Word of God, it not only grows our intimacy with Jesus Christ and enables us to know God’s character and nature better, but studying the Bible also gives 10 specific benefits:
-
- Growth and maturity (see 1 Peter 2:2-3; Hebrews 5:11-14)
-
- Spiritual effectiveness (see 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
-
- Guidance and wisdom (see Psalm 119:105; Joshua 1:8)
-
- Trains us in righteousness and purity (see Psalm 119:9,11)
-
- Delight and joy (see Psalm 119:15-16; Psalm 16:8-11; Psalm 19:10; John 15:11)
-
- Assurance of salvation (see 1 John 5:13)
-
- Sanctification and cleansing (see John 15:3; John 17:17)
-
- Peace (see John 16:33)
-
- Helps us in prayer (see John 15:7)
-
- Victory and success (see 1 John 2:14; Joshua 1:8)
The vigour of our spiritual life will be in exact proportion to the place held by the Bible in our life and thoughts.

Personally, studying the Bible has been one of the most profitable things I have ever done (not just for my spiritual life but for every aspect of living).
Since I was first introduced to Saturation Bible Study by my good friend and mentor Stephen Manley, my world hasn’t been the same. The Word of God is “living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
When we study and intentionally spend time in God’s Word, it renews our minds, transforms our lives, and deepens our knowledge of and intimacy with God Himself.
The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible.

Though there is profit from reading and listening to others who have studied the Bible—via sermons, books, devotionals, etc.—there is no substitute for personally studying God’s Word and digging into its rich truths for oneself.
Yet too many Christians are confused on how to study, where to start, and how to practically apply the concepts and truth of the Bible in their daily lives.
For the past decade, I’ve taught thousands of Christians how to study the Bible and the following curated posts will help you take the first step into the endless depths and delight of knowing God through His Word.
I am often releasing new articles on how to study the Bible, but the following articles are organized in such a way that no matter where you are starting—from the beginner to the more advanced—you can find something that will add tremendous value to your study.
If you are new to Bible study, consider starting at the beginning (or pick and choose what you feel is more applicable to where you are right now). If you are more advanced, then while I’d encourage you to gain a clear foundation with the beginning posts, there is still a lot of tools, resources, and helpful ideas to deepen and mature your Bible study.
Regardless of where you are at, I’m excited to see what Jesus will do in your life as you saturate in Him as you learn to more effectively study the Bible.
A readiness to believe every promise implicitly, to obey every command unhesitatingly, to stand perfect and complete in all the will of God, is the only true spirit of Bible study.
